On the 29th September an article appeared on BBC news reporting that, as from 2016, all prisons in Wales and four prisons in the South-West of England will impose a smoking ban on inmates. This ban includes smoking in cells and outside, which is currently allowed, during exercise.

The government intends to eventually extend this ban (in line with UK legislation and amid nationwide health concerns related to smoking) in all prisons in Wales and England.
