CRITICAL THINKING EXERCISE - PORTFOLIO BUILDING - DEVELOPING YOUR REASONING SKILLS

Being able to reason and justify opinions, is a crucial skill in the health care arena  - for everyday care accountability, case team discussion , decision-making, and to influence change and organisational policy making.

A critical thinker should always know why they think what they do, why they hold their opinions.

Furthermore, critical thinkers should be able to justify and convince others of the correctness of their view, or at the very least persuade them there is some merit in the position they take.

Non-critical thinkers, meanwhile, may have a gut reaction to issues ( this feeling is still important) - but it is also important to examine why . Non-critical thinkers may also rely on the opinions of others ( this is not the same as learning from others ) - or even uphold a prejudiced view of a matter.  It is possible for a critical thinker and a non-critical thinker to hold the same view.  The former, however, would be able to explain the reasons for that opinion and the evidence to support it.

This activity asks you to focus on your opinions and beliefs about everyday topics. This survey will assist you to begin to question what underpins your views, and attempts to help you understand the issues and arguments from a different perspective.

You may wish to focus on an issue from the VX or choose your own everyday issue.
